Site Update 21-Alpha

Surprise, a new shiny theme has appeared! I have spent the past few days working on the design you currently see. It is based on the previous theme which I have been using for the past two years or so. A big thank you to Ulysses for creating the original theme. I have put a little link in the footer for you. Although my recreation of Ulysses’s theme is not of the same quality, I believe it has some potential.

Software Prototyping

Prototyping is a good way to find out if what you have is what the users are looking for. It’s useful to get user feedback on the project and useful for evaluation Prototyping can be done throughout the project and at any time. There are many different types of prototyping, which range from pieces of paper(low fidelity) to implemented software (high fidelity). Prototyping helps to clarify any uncertainty of the functional and user requirements, “look and feel” of the interface and how appropriate the design is.

Network Attached Storage

11 Jul, 2010 - 3 minutes
As I love networks and love storage even more, I decided that I want to have a network attached storage device (NAS). Now my first location on my NAS quest was obviously CISCO, as they are pure awesome. After looking at the super expensive products they had for sale I decided to give the not so cool but still cool Linksys a look over and found the NAS200, with 2 USB and two SATA hard drive enclosure.

New Design

6 Jul, 2010 - 1 minutes
I was bored with the old look of the site. Now I have a new layout, and with 10min of tweaking to get it to my liking we now have this. As you can see we still have the old Nation Pigeon banner which was created way back on February 9, 2008, it still has the original white lines on it. (anyone is welcome to remove them, in fact I might do it now … )

Simple WEP Cracking

18 Jun, 2010 - 5 minutes
1 Introduction This tutorial will show you how to crack a depreciated, but still used, wireless encryption algorithm called Wired Equivalent Privacy (WEP). WEP was introduced in 1997 and was designed to provide the user with a secure connection comparable to that of traditional wired networks. But sometime in 2001 weaknesses where beginning to show and in 2004 WEP was declared depreciated due to the fact that it was unable to meet its security goals.

Networked power monitor/manager for £25

18 Jun, 2010 - 1 minutes
This idea came from the random future films and adverts. Yeah it has been done before, but I was wondering how easy it would be to make something like this with out spending loads of money. I mean I’ve seen web servers made the size of business cards and cost about the same, so if you were to mix that with some fancy wiring, power monitor and a power off timer.

Firefox fullscreen

22 Feb, 2010 - 1 minutes
When using my crappy netbook I found that I needed to use firefox’s fullscreen thingy (f11), but because my netbook is so slow it goes laggy when the address bar goes back up. So to disable the animations goto “about:config” -> then type into the search “fullscreen” to disable the animation set “browser.fullscreen.animateUp” to 0 from 1. This will disable the cool but laggy animation. Also you can make the menu stay ontop by changing the “browser.

OSI Layer 5: Session

10 Nov, 2008 - 1 minutes
As its name implies, the session layer establishes, manages and terminates sessions between two communicating hosts. The session layer provides its services to the presentation layer. It also synchronizes dialogue between the two hosts’ presentation layers and manages their data exchange. In addition to handling session regulation, the session layer offers provisions for efficient data transfer, class of service, and exception reporting of session layer, presentation layer and application layer problems.

Web Site Evaluation

5 May, 2008 - 2 minutes
Some of the points that the site should be evaluated on are: How easy is it to get to a specific page? Is the information clear and easy to understand? At a quick glance can you tell what it’s supposed to do? I think that if you evaluate a web site by these points you will be able to work out if it is well designed.

Studying Tip #2

5 May, 2008 - 1 minutes
All ways start your assignments when you get them, that way you will have lots of time to get them done! As well as other work that you might have to do. Disk Storage

29 Apr, 2008 - 4 minutes
Disk storage can be anything from a CD ROM to a floppy disk or Hard disk. The general term for any physical storage unit is volume. Disks are divided in tracks, these tracks are not a physical division as on a record and their position is fixed by the Read/Write head. The tracks are numbered, then subdivided into sectors. Sectors are normally the same size on each track and throughout the disk, sectors are numbered by inserting the sector number into the sector header.

Studying Tip #1
